After graduating from the Ringling School of Art in Florida in 1976, he worked for Hallmark and later the San Francisco Examiner (from 1981 to 1989). Since 1988 he has been a freelance illustrator with an impressive range of corporate and editorial clients, including Ranger Rick, U.S. News and World Report, The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Detroit Free Press, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Salon, Yankee, Horticulture, Scholastic, National Geographic World, MacWeek, Parenting, Gibson Greetings, Transamerica, Chevron, Arco and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He also has illustrated four children's books.
